The Empowered Writer exists to help writers who are talented as heck but just stuck. Whether it's from overthinking, decision fatigue, doubting themselves, or good ol' fashioned self-sabotage, I was seeing way too many writers give up or just not move forward in the ways they needed. 

So over the last five years, I've dedicated and transformed what was once a simple freelance editing business into a robust, ever-growing and inclusive place of resources and support. 

TEW is now a mix of targeted, hyper specific programs that guide you precisely through a bottleneck in your creative process that's been holding you back, as well as extremely personalized and deep dive 1:1 coaching and editing. 

Its mission is to make your story better, but also you, the storyteller.

I'm not hiring at the moment, but I am slowly bringing on more team members this year. My goal is to really expand the company with wonderful people and I will definitely be posting opportunities soon!

Soooo much turmoil is happening in the world, and I hate it. It really makes me so sad and angry. Which is why I'm pledging to give back a portion of all sales to various charities, wish lists, and organizations throughout the year. 

I'll also be offering scholarship opportunities as frequently as I can.

I know it's not much (hello, billionaires, please start stepping up) but it's my pledge to do everything I can to help people, animals, and the environment.

I've been working with writers since 2008, as an editor, coach, teacher and mentor. In that time, I've helped hundreds and hundreds of writers. You can read some of their experiences and successes with me here.

Nope. TEW has a very strict no AI policy. Meaning, we will never put your work through any AI machine. We will never use AI on your work. We will never ask AI about your work. 

We take this stance because we 100% believe AI steals from writers, artists and other creatives. It's extremely terrible for the environment, and it will never actually help you become a better writer who is capable of writing better books.

We ask that if you work with us, you do not send us any AI generated stories.

I owe it all to my grandma and the very, very large box of books she gave me. It was jampacked with stories that only strengthened my love of books. 

I also owe my deep thanks to the school librarian too, who read Bunnicula and Shiloh to the class. To my sister who gave me her entire Christopher Pike collection. To my mom (the best mom) for reading Runaway Bunny to me and making me love love love picture books like nothing else.

And of course, to so many authors who wrote the most amazing stories on earth. 

No wonder I love working with them so much.

Since 2008, I've been a developmental editor and book coach, working with both traditional and self-published authors. In the last five years alone, many of the writers I've worked with have obtained publishing deals with HarperCollins, Holiday House, Doubleday Canada, and more.

Others have received agent representation and have self-published to critical success, winning awards such as the National Indie Excellence Award, SCBWI Spark Award, Mom’s Choice Award, Green Earth Book Award, Romance Writers Stiletto Award, and more.

I have always been fascinated by the use of language to convey complex ideas and moods. I love how writers utilize their unique voices and styles to express their thoughts in distinctive ways. As an editor, my first goal is to help you tell your story in your own voice. I will help you correct and clarify, explain and emote—everything you need to make your style shine—without losing what makes your writing yours. 

My strengths lie in line editing, especially when it comes to the teeny-tiny details. Does one word have a stronger connotation than another? Would a different punctuation mark enhance the mood of the scene? How would a line break or a reaction beat make a chunk of dialogue more dramatic? Have you already used a certain phrase elsewhere in the story? Let's mix it up to make it fresh!

My biggest interests are fantasy, historical fiction, poetry, and romance. YA and Adult are the age groups I have the most experience with, but I also dabble in MG and Children's Lit. 

Unfortunately, due to an overactive imagination and a tendency towards nightmares, I would not be a great fit for horror, thrillers, or anything with frequent or overly graphic depictions of violence.
